Every month a different quote will be selected by our staff. The theme of these quotes center around reading.

The Gardener: Lydia Grace Finch brings a suitcase full of seeds to the big gray city, where she goes to stay with her Uncle Jim, a cantankerous baker. The Stray Dog: Caldecott Medalist Marc Simont's heartwarming tale of a stray dog is told with tender simplicity and grace. When a little dog appears at a family picnic, the girl and boy play with him all afternoon, and they name him Willy. At day's end they say good-bye. But the dog has won their hearts and stays on their minds. The following Saturday the family returns to the picnic grounds to look for Willy, but they are not alone--the dog catcher is looking for him, too!

Song and Dance Man: In this affectionate story, three children follow their grandfather up to the attic, where he pulls out his old bowler hat, gold-tipped cane, and his tap shoes. Grandpa once danced on the vaudeville stage, and as he glides across the floor, the children can see what it was like to be a song and dance man. Gammell captures all the story's inherent joie de vivre with color pencil renderings that leap off the pages. Bespectacled, enthusiastic Grandpa clearly exudes the message that you're only as old as you feel, but the children respond--as will readers--to the nostalgia of the moment.

Hondo & Fabian: Hondo the dog has a fun day at the beach while Fabian the cat stays home. Wake up, Hondo. Time to go! Hondo will have an adventure. Fabian will stay home. A dog named Hondo and his friend Fred are going to the beach for a day of excitement. Fabian the cat is left behind at home to play with the baby. Who will cause more trouble? And who will have more fun? Peter McCarty's exquisite illustrations and understated wit turn an ordinary day in the lives of two pets into a rare delight.

Joseph Had a Little Overcoat: Joseph had a little overcoat, but it was full of holes--just like this book! When Joseph's coat got too old and shabby, he made it into a jacket. But what did he make it into after that? And after that? As children turn the pages of this book, they can use the die-cut holes to guess what Joseph will be making next from his amazing overcoat, while they laugh at the bold, cheerful artwork and learn that you can always make something, even out of nothing.

Lon Po Po: Three sisters staying home alone are endangered by a hungry wolf who is disguised as their grandmother in this Chinese retelling.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Goldilocks is a naughty little girl who does exactly as she pleases--even if that means sampling the three bears' porridge, breaking Baby Bear's chair and sleeping in his bed. James Marshall's offbeat and inventive telling of this familiar tale will enchant readers, young and old. 

Hey, Al:  Al, a janitor, and his faithful dog, Eddie, live in a single room on the West Side. They eat together, they work together, they do everything together. So what's the problem? Their room is crowded and cramped; their life is an endless struggle. Al and Eddie are practically at each others' throats when a large and mysterious bird offers them a new life in paradise. After some debate, they decide to accept. Transported to a gorgeous island in the sky, Al and Eddie are soon living a life of ease and luxury. But they come to find that the grass can be a little too green on the other side. After a dramatic, nearly tragic escape from their paradise prison, both man and dog agree: there really is no place like home.

The Relatives Came: In a rainbow-colored station wagon that smelled like a real car, the relatives came. When they arrived, they hugged and hugged from the kitchen to the front room. All summer they tended the garden and ate up all the strawberries and melons. They plucked banjos and strummed guitars.

Interrupting Chicken: It's time for the little red chicken's bedtime story -- and a reminder from Papa to try not to interrupt. But the chicken can't help herself! Whether the tale is Hansel and Gretel or Little Red Riding Hood or even Chicken Little, she jumps into the story to save its hapless characters. Now it's the little red chicken's turn to tell a story, but will her yawning papa make it to the end without his own kind of interrupting?

The first book will ship within a week after the order is placed. The rest of the books in the subscription will ship close to this same date every month.

If you would like to delay the start of the subscription, you may elect a later date on the checkout page.

Every time a book is shipped, you will receive an email with a tracking number. You will know exactly when every single book is received by the recipient.

How will the recipient know the length of the subscription?

A card is included in the first book with information about the gift, including the terms of the subscription.

Can I make changes to the book selections after the subscription is ordered?

We will happily assist you swap out any books that have not yet been shipped. Please submit your request through the Contact Us form.

Do subscriptions automatically renew?

No, we never renew subscriptions or charge your card after you place your initial order. We will alert you when the subscription has ended. If you would like to continue the service, you may place another order on the website.

Can I cancel the subscription before it is over?

No, we do not allow cancelations due to the highly customized service we provide. We will, however, work with you to tweak the book selections if reading preferences change.

Can siblings share a subscription?

Absolutely! Just remember to add extra lollipops.

Are there any options instead of lollipops?

Yes. You can choose to add stickers in lieu of lollipops. Each book will come with four 2"-3" stickers that can be used to decorate the inside covers of the books, water bottles, laptops, or any other object.

What if the child already has a book in the subscription?

While we cannot support returns or exchanges, we will gladly work with you before the books are sent. For example, if you would like to swap out a particular book, just submit a request through the Contact Us page.

Does The Lollipop Book Club ship to Canada?

No, we only ship within the United States.
